The associations Praxis Greece, from Serres, United
Society of the Balkans, from Thessaloniki, and unesco club of Serres, will
collaborate together to carry out this event. In this activity volunteers from
different parts of Europe work together to raise awareness on the importance of
the radio in society.
During the day, each of them will present one-hour
programmes in which they will talk about different topics e.g. Active
youth participation, Video surveillance, youth
unemployment in Europe and corruption are some of the topics to be discussed
this Sunday. Of course, they will also do a program together to inform and
converse about World Radio Day between 3 and 5 o'clock. “I'm excited for
tomorrow, it is going to be a unique experience with people from different
countries and backgrounds to raise awareness of the importance of the radio”,
said Cece, one of the young volunteers.
According to a study carried out in 2021 in the European
Union, radio is the medium in which citizens have the most confidence, with
58%. Other media, such as the written press and television, had a trust rate of
51%.
This year, UNESCO has focused the celebration of World
Radio Day on the importance of maintaining that trust in radio journalism.
“Radio is a powerful medium for celebrating humanity in all its diversity and
constitutes a platform for democratic discourse”, declares Unesco.
