2018 Global Youth Climate Video Competition Open for Applications

Bonn, UN Climate Change News, 8 May 2018 – Youth from all over the world can apply until the 31st of August for the 2018 Global Youth Video Competition. The initiative, which is in its 4th edition, aims to highlight, through videos, climate action being taken by youth.
Two participants will be selected as winners to attend the Conference of Parties (COP 24) in Katowice, Poland, in December 2018. At the Conference, the videos will be showcased in front of a global audience and the winners will have the opportunity to work with UN Climate Change’s communications team covering highlights of the meeting.
UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa said: “Today’s youth are different than any generation that has come before. Since birth, they have learned words such as global warming, melting glaciers, sea rise and extreme weather. But they have also heard words such as electric cars, wind farms, renewable energy, the Sustainable Development Goals, the Paris Agreement. Youth are important agents of change, who are key to accelerating climate action. Youth have the influence, and they have the numbers.”
To participate in the competition, it is necessary to be between 18 and 30 years of age and submit a maximum 3-minute video on “responsible production and consumption” or “green and climate-friendly jobs”.
Examples for the category ‘responsible production and consumption’ can include videos on initiatives to reduce unnecessary consumption, decrease emissions during the lifecycle of goods, promote sustainable fashion, or encourage the sharing economy and reuse of goods and materials. As for the category ‘green and climate friendly jobs’, submissions can include videos on work or entrepreneurship that contributes to a healthy economy and addresses climate change.
A judging panel including representatives from the Global Environment Facility-United Nations Development Programme Small Grants Programme, UN Climate Change, and tve will pre-select a short list of videos based on the criteria of content, innovation, originality impact, and technical expertise. Pre-selected videos will then be posted online to be voted on by the public.
The 2018 edition of the Global Youth Video Competition is co-organized by UN Climate Change, GEF-UNDP SGP and Connect4Climate, with support from BNP Paribas Foundation and the constituency of youth non-governmental organizations (YOUNGO). The competition will be implemented through the Television for Environment (tve) platform.

Celebrating International Youth Day 2018!
International Youth Day is commemorated every year on the 12 August. This year’s event will be on the 10 August 2018 at the UN Gigiri Complex in Nairobi. UNDESA and UN Habitat encourage youth and young people, youth structures, civil society and other relevant stakeholders to come together and celebrate the role of “Safe Spaces for Youth” in their local communities. Many youth have innovative and creative ways to celebrate the day, but if you would like to explore some of our suggested ways to get involved, explore our toolkit for some great ideas!
SPREAD THE WORD!
The idea of safe spaces is still new to most people, you can help spread the word and raise awareness about it by beginning with those closest to you, such as your inner circles of family and friends. Raising the topic with those close to you can help bring up useful ideas. The discussions can also be an opportunity to dispel judgmental attitudes, hateful speech or homophobic behavior. You can help spread the word! Engage in discussions about the importance of why youth need safe spaces, taking the opportunity to educate friends or family members on the various forms safe spaces. You can highlight the importance of the accessibility and availability of safe spaces for youth. Share your knowledge and information on safe spaces (you can give examples of civic, public, digital and public spaces, and use our resource package on our website). Provide an explanation of how safe spaces can contribute to the cognitive, social and emotional development of youth. Encourage participants to explore existing and non-existent spaces in their respective communities. You can discover where safe spaces exist and identify where they are lacking in your local community. Explore different ways to make spaces safe for all youth including those from diverse backgrounds such as youth with disabilities, diverse gender identities, young women and girls, migrants and refugees etc. Youth from different backgrounds may prefer one form of space over the other; this will be an opportunity to hear their views and suggestions. Create a ‘take-away package’ from the discussions held, and identify specific and actionable items that include the kinds of spaces that could benefit youth in your community. You can map them out and create a table to share with your local leaders or community planners. #SafeSpaces4Youth ORGANISE AN EVENT! One way to engage your community in a visible and interactive way is to organize an event or activity that can attract as many youth as possible. Depending on where you are located, you can begin with a brainstorming session at school, or engage with friends or colleagues to tap into their ideas of how to create safe spaces in their respective communities. Another way is to work closely with a local youth structure like a youth council or a boys and girls club to brainstorm on the organization of the event. Take advantage of social media and use the different platforms to initiate discussions where youth can participate in activities such as: Small seminars, lectures or peer-to-peer debates- take the initiative to organise a round table discussion or organize a Focus-Group Discussion (FGD) and invite both young and old older people to stimulate inter-generational discussions. Ensure a wider geographic and gender-balance to help capture everyone’s ideas and suggestions. Community cleanups-when youth have space for leisure they can feel happy and relaxed, but sometimes those spaces need to be created in the first place. Rather than waiting for a new space to come along, you can ask for permission to create a leisure spot for social meet-ups, sports and entertainment activities. For instance, you can mobilise a cleanup session amongst youth and turn an unused patch of land into a small football field. You can encourage youth to use recycled materials to build simple furniture like benches or mats for relaxation in the field. Be creative and have fun with the process! Concerts, festivals and art exhibitions, or similar social activities are great ways to engage talented local people who can perform dance, music, art or poetry to promote the theme for International Youth Day 2018. You can seize the opportunity and invite a politician and respected community member to do the official opening of the event, this is one way to attract wider interest and participation.
ENGAGE & ADVOCATE!
Engage community leaders and activists and invite them and to a public meeting where a politician or policy maker will be present. Below are some ways to advocate and lobby your government or policy makers to recognize the role of safe spaces in youth livelihoods: Organize a speaking role for a senior politician to share their insights about the importance of safe spaces, and invite youth participants from different backgrounds - to exchange information with political representatives. Use the platform to empower, encourage participation and engagement of various actors from the community. You can highlight the importance of availability, accessibility, and affordability of safe spaces for youth. Reach out to the media or organize a small radio session to speak on the topic of safe spaces for youth, and how this is important to youth development.

Sharing information about the positive role of safe spaces in contributing to youth livelihoods can raise awareness and help campaign for the creation of safe spaces in the community. Highlight stories through social media such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtags: #YouthDay, #SafeSpaces4Youth JOIN US ONLINE! Take advantage of our social media and other information communication technology initiatives below to spread the word, engage and advocate for “Safe Spaces for Youth” with your family, friends and the wider community. Υλοποιείται στο πλαίσιο του ERASMUS+ και που προωθεί την κινητικότητα των Νέων σε όλη την Ευρώπη και επιδοτείται από το πρόγραμμα “ERASMUS+” της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης. Καλύπτει πλήρως όλα τα έξοδα διαμονής και διατροφής, ενώ επιστρέφονται και έως 360 ευρώ από τα έξοδα ταξιδίου. Για τα μέλη της ΠΡΑΞΙΣ οικονομική συμμετοχή είναι 30 ευρώ. Μπορούν να συμμετέχουν 4 νέοι και νέες από 18-25 χρονών. Θα συμμετέχουν 30 Νέοι από 10 χώρες της Ευρώπης : Ελλάδα, Ιταλία Σλοβακία, Εσθονία, Ισπανία και Πορτογαλία,
Η ΠΡΑΞΙΣ συμμετέχει με 4 Νέους /Νέες , ηλικίας μεταξύ 18 και 25 ετών και έναν Leader ανεξαρτήτου ηλικίας.

“Grab your world” is a Youth Exchange project for 30 young people aged 18-25 years old, from Portugal, Slovakia, Estonia, Spain, Italy and Greece, whose main aim is to learn and explore ways of preventing wild fires and protecting nature, while promoting volunteering and active citizenship.
This project will be held in Lagos - Portugal, from 22-28th October 2018.

Accommodation: In a School Gym inside "Espaço Jovem", located in Lagos' city center
(NOTICE: All participants will be sleeping in mattresses on the floor, in open space/shared dorm, with shared bathrooms)
Participants: 5 youngsters per country: 4 participants (ages 18- 25 years old, able to understand and express themselves in English) and 1 group leader (> 18 years old, with no age limit)
Participants ideal profile:
- Motivated to learn about fire prevention and to actively contribute for nature protection
- Interested in volunteering for community development
Reimbursement of travel costs: refund maximum amount according with Erasmus+ Greece: 360€
Once you are selected, you will have to use the cheapest means of transportation. You may buy flights arriving or departing few days (up to 3 days!) before the start or after the end of the program (so the maximum is: 3 days before and 3 days after), if that makes economic sense.
Reimbursement of travel costs will be made only after ALL invoices, boarding passes and original both-ways travel documents are received.

Once you are selected, you will have to use the cheapest means of transportation. You may buy flights arriving or departing few days (up to 3 days!) before the start or after the end of the program (so the maximum is: 3 days before and 3 days after), if that makes economic sense.
Reimbursement of travel costs will be made only after ALL invoices, boarding passes and original both-ways travel documents are received.

Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Προσφύγων 2018
Σε έναν κόσμο όπου η βία αναγκάζει χιλιάδες οικογένειες να φύγουν κάθε μέρα για τη ζωή τους, είναι πλέον καιρός να δείξουμε ότι το παγκόσμιο κοινό βρίσκεται με τους πρόσφυγες.
Για το σκοπό αυτό, η Υπηρεσία Προσφύγων του ΟΗΕ ξεκίνησε την αίτηση #WithRefugees τον Ιούνιο του 2016 για να στείλει ένα μήνυμα προς τις κυβερνήσεις ότι πρέπει να συνεργαστούν και να κάνουν το δίκαιό τους μερίδιο για τους πρόσφυγες.
Την Παγκόσμια Ημέρα για τους Πρόσφυγες, που πραγματοποιείται κάθε χρόνο στις 20 Ιουνίου, εορτάζουμε τη δύναμη, το θάρρος και την επιμονή εκατομμυρίων προσφύγων. Φέτος, η Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Προσφύγων σηματοδοτεί επίσης μια σημαντική στιγμή για το κοινό να δείξει υποστήριξη στις οικογένειες που αναγκάστηκαν να εγκαταλείψουν. http://www.unhcr.org/gr/withrefugees
Με αφορμή την παγκόσμια ημέρα προσφύγων, η Praxis Greece σε συνεργασία με τον Όμιλο Σερρών για UNESCO , διοργανώνουν την Τετάρτη 20/6/2018 στην πλατεία Ελευθερίας (18:00 μμ) μια σειρά από δραστηριότητες για μικρούς και μεγάλους, με σκοπό την ενημέρωση και ευαισθητοποίηση των πολιτών για το προσφυγικό ζήτημα.
Στα πλαίσια της εκδήλωσης, οι συμμετέχοντες θα μπορούν να συζητήσουν και να καταγράψουν τις σκέψεις τους, να διασκεδάσουν μέσα από τις αθλητικές δραστηριότητες (ομαδικά παιχνίδια- χορός) και να ενημερωθούν για τις δράσεις υποδοχής και ενίσχυσης των προσφύγων στις Σέρρες.
Όλοι μαζί, Σερραίοι πολίτες, εθελοντές και πρόσφυγες, συζητούν και διασκεδάζουν σε μια βιωματική εκδήλωση στο κέντρο της πόλης.
Μήνυμα του Γενικού Γραμματέα
Τι θα κάνατε αν αναγκάζεστε να φύγετε από το σπίτι σας;
Σήμερα, πάνω από 68 εκατομμύρια άνθρωποι σε όλο τον κόσμο είναι πρόσφυγες ή εκτοπισμένοι εσωτερικά ως αποτέλεσμα σύγκρουσης ή διώξεων. Αυτό ισοδυναμεί με τον πληθυσμό της 20ής μεγαλύτερης χώρας στον κόσμο.
Πέρυσι, κάποιος μεταφέρθηκε κάθε δύο δευτερόλεπτα. Κυρίως, στις φτωχότερες χώρες.
Την Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Προσφύγων, όλοι πρέπει να σκεφτούμε τι μπορούμε να κάνουμε για να βοηθήσουμε. Η απάντηση ξεκινά με ενότητα και αλληλεγγύη.
Είμαι βαθύτατα προβληματισμένος που βλέπω όλο και περισσότερες καταστάσεις στις οποίες οι πρόσφυγες δεν λαμβάνουν την προστασία που χρειάζονται και στις οποίες δικαιούνται.
Πρέπει να αποκαταστήσουμε την ακεραιότητα του διεθνούς καθεστώτος προστασίας των προσφύγων. Στον σημερινό κόσμο, καμία κοινότητα ή χώρα που να παρέχει ασφαλή καταφύγια σε ανθρώπους που εγκαταλείπουν τον πόλεμο ή τις διώξεις, πρέπει να είναι μόνοι και να μην υποστηρίζονται.
Βρισκόμαστε μαζί ή αποτυγχάνουμε.
Φέτος, θα υποβληθεί στη Γενική Συνέλευση των Ηνωμένων Εθνών ένα Παγκόσμιο Σύμφωνο για τους Πρόσφυγες. Προσφέρει μια πρόοδο και αναγνωρίζει τη συμβολή των προσφύγων στις κοινωνίες που τους φιλοξενούν.
Όσο υπάρχουν πόλεμοι και διώξεις, θα υπάρξουν πρόσφυγες. Την Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Προσφύγων, σας παρακαλώ να τα θυμάστε.
Η ιστορία τους είναι μια ανθεκτικότητα, επιμονή και θάρρος. Πρέπει να είμαστε αλληλεγγύη, συμπόνια και δράση.

7ο Eco Festival 2018 και καμπάνια *Αστα να τρέξουν ξανά!*
H ΠΡΑΞΙΣ ,o Ομιλος Σερρών για UNESCO συμμετέχει στο 7ο Eco Festival 2018 με την καμπάνια Αστα να τρέξουν ξανά!
Η καμπάνια της Team for the World έχει την αιγίδα της Ελληνικής Ολυμπιακής Επιτροπής και συμμετέχει στις μεγαλύτερες αθλητικές εκδηλώσεις Μαραθώνιος ,Δημου Ατικής,Ν Φαλήρου.Στις Σερρες είναι η τριτη φορά που διοργανώνεται στις μεγάλες δράσεις του Δήμου Σερρών
Το υλικό που θα συγκεντρωθεί θα παραδωθεί στην δομή των προσφύγων του Δήμου Σερρών.

Συμμετοχή στο Eco Festival 2018
Ο Ομιλος συμμετέχει προωθώντας την καμπάνια του Παγκόσμιου Οργανισμού Περιβάλλοντο και υγείας για την Ατμοσφαιρική ρύπανση #BeatPollution και το θέμα της Ημέρας Περιβάλλοντος *Κατά της πλαστικής ρύπανσης * Παράλληλα θα έχει παιδιά απο το καμπ των προσύγων για το κάλεσμα που πραγματοποει στα σχολεία ώστε να φέρουναθλητικά παπούτσια σε καλή κατασταση Αστα να τρέξουν ξανά!

Impact Lab, 23 – 30 April 2018, Viljandi, Estonia, 2018
It was a great experience for Vasilis Hortomaris, (volunteer from PRAXIS) who was able to participate in an international working and capacity-building meeting for youth organizations
interested in long-term co-operation with a focus on quality and strategic impact, in Viljandi County in the centre of Estonia.
In the late of April the weather was still cold but the spring breeze was present as well in this Baltic country.
The hosting organization was Noored Uhiskonna Heaks.
There were 28 participants in the seminar from 17 countries that represented 22 institutions. Trainers discussed various issues about realities of youths, quality, sustainability of NGO, youth work, erasmus+ and other opportunities, in addition there were a NGO fair that followed up by a visual network of them.
After the intense 3 first days, the “impact lab family” had the opportunity to visit youth local centres and the town of viljandi which is next to Lake Viljandi jarv. The ruins of the Teutonic order castle lay in the highest point of the town, which is an attractive point for tourists.
The seminar continued after that short tour with more interesting topics such as matching of partners for long term impact, project development and support, followed up with consultation groups, presentation of projects and plans for the future.
Apart of all these activities, it was beneficial and fruitful for the participants the fact that through that process it was able to strengthen the relations between the organizations and to attract future partners for various projects.
Obviously, the seminar was beneficial for all the participants in various ways such as increase of cultural diversity awareness, working in groups, comprehension of quality assessment tools and other activities that helped them to improve their skills in various fields.
Moreover, it is also clear that young people have the opportunity to travel and to participate in such kind of projects in order to gain experiences of these multicultural events and to improve their skills and qualities as well.

ΔΙΕΘΝΕΣ ΣΕΜΙΝΑΡΙΟ ΜΕ ΘΕΜΑ ΤΑ ΨΗΦΙΑΚΑ ΜΕΣΑ
Η ΠΡΑΞΙΣ συμμετείχε σε σεμινάριο κατάρτισης που διοργάνωσε ο οργανισμός SEAL CYPRUS στη Λάρνακα από τις
18 ως τις 25 Μαρτίου για Εργαζόμενους με
τους Νέους από Ευρωπαϊκούς οργανισμούς από 8 χώρες (Κύπρο, Ελλάδα, Πολωνία,
Τσεχία, Γερμανία, Βουλγαρία, Σλοβακία και Εσθονία). Το σεμινάριο “Go Digital” είχε
θέμα τα Ψηφιακά Μέσα στην Εργασία με τη Νεολαία (Youth Work).
Η Praxis εκπροσωπήθηκε από 3 άτομα.
Οι συνεδρίες κάλυψαν θέματα όπως η κριτική στάση
απέναντι στα ψηφιακά μέσα, η χρήση εφαρμογών για τη διαχείριση έργων και η προβολή
της εργασίας με τους νέους (youth
work) στα μέσα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης. Έμφαση δόθηκε στην
αξία των ψηφιακών δεξιοτήτων για τους νέους -ιδίως για εκείνους που έχουν
λιγότερες ευκαιρίες- και στη σημασία του ευρωπαϊκού πιστοποιητικού YOUTHPASS.
Τη Δευτέρα 19 Μαρτίου η διεθνής αποστολή επισκέφθηκε
το Youth Makerspace που δημιούργησε ο Οργανισμός
Νεολαίας Κύπρου σε συνεργασία με το Δήμο Λάρνακας. Εκεί, οι συμμετέχοντες
δοκίμασαν εξοπλισμό τελευταίας τεχνολογίας όπως 3D Printer, 3D Scanner, ρομπότ, drone
και το σύστημα εικονικής πραγματικότητας Oculus Rift που προσφέρονται
στους νέους της Κύπρου για την ανάπτυξη πρωτότυπων επιχειρηματικών ιδεών.
Την Τετάρτη 21 Μαρτίου οι απεσταλμένοι επισκέφθηκαν
το Κέντρο Πληροφόρησης Europe
Direct Λάρνακας. Εκεί, ενημερώθηκαν από την λειτουργό κα
Μυρτώ Κατσούρη για τις δυνατότητες πρόσβασης σε έγκυρη πληροφόρηση που δίνουν
τα κέντρα Europe Direct στους Ευρωπαίους πολίτες.
Ο Επίτροπος
Εθελοντισμού και μη- κυβερνητικών Οργανώσεων κ. Γιάννης Γιαννάκη συναντήθηκε με
τα στελέχη των Ευρωπαϊκών οργανισμών την Πέμπτη 22 Μαρτίου. Κατά τη διάρκεια
της συνάντησης δόθηκε στους συμμετέχοντες η ευκαιρία να συνομιλήσουν με τον
Επίτροπο για θέματα Πολιτικής ως προς τον Εθελοντισμό.
Το σεμινάριο χρηματοδοτήθηκε από το
Ευρωπαϊκό Πρόγραμμα Erasmus+ μέσω της Εθνικής
Υπηρεσίας Erasmus+: Νεολαία.

DIGITAL- REPORT
The
training course “Go Digital”, organised by SEAL CYPRUS took place in Larnaca
from 18th to 24h of March 2018 with the participation of
youth workers from 8 European countries; Cyprus, Greece, Poland, Czech
Republic, Germany, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Estonia.
The
organisation Praxis, Greece was
represented by three youth workers.
The main
topic was Digital Media in Youth Work.
The
sessions covered topics such as the responsible use of digital media, the
critical attitude towards the social media, digital media for project
management, the promotion of youth work in the social media, the importance of
digital competences for the young people- especially those with fewer
opportunities, and the significance of the European certificate YOUTHPASS.
The
delegates had the honour to be paid a visit by the Cyprus Commissioner for
Volunteerism and NGO, Mr. Yiannis Yiannakis, who engaged into discussion about
volunteerism in Cyprus, the contribution of young people, the legal framework,
and the improvements made in recent years and the challenges still ahead.
The
delegates also visited the Youth Makerspace in Larnaca, a space created by the
Youth Board of Cyprus where the young people have access to high-quality
equipment such as 3D scanners, 3D printers, robots, mini processors and virtual reality systems for developing prototypes and implementing their business ideas.
The
sessions were held by professional youth trainers. With their active
participation, the youth workers gave important input about digital media in
youth work in Europe.
