For the World Bee Day students from a local school in Serres drew photos in the theme of the day.
The children got creative with their imagination and put shared their ideas in a visual form.
Bees are very important in our daily lives, which is why we need to raise awareness to people of all ages.
Here are 5 reasons how bees affect different aspects of our lives:
1. They can help fight cancer
A team writing in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture recently found that bee products, including honey, bee venom and royal jelly, were effective in reducing the growth and spread of cancerous tumors.
2. Bees can predict storms
These small, yet amazing insects use Earth’s magnetic field to navigate, but these electromagnetic waves also warn bees of an oncoming thunderstorm.
So the next time you notice there are no bees in sight and none hovering around the flowerbeds, be prepared for a rainy day!
3. They make us the sweet substance we use in our foods and products daily!
Would you want to live in a world without honey?
In addition, honey also has medicinal and antibacterial uses and it never goes bad!
3. They pollinate a third of our food.
Yep! One out of every three bites you put in your mouth was pollinated by honeybees.
A few examples of what types of food they pollinate: apples, almonds, broccoli, strawberries, cucumber and much more!
5. Bees keep the global economy buzzing.
Bees are responsible for pollinating $15 billion worth of just US crops and 200 million pounds of UK crops. This makes their contribution to the agricultural economy, and thus the global economy, pretty significant.
In fact, one study claims the global economic loss if bees disappeared would be $5.7 billion annually.
Isn't it crazy how big of an impact these tiny insects have in our lives? This is why it is important to #savethebees and educate yourself how you can contribute to keeping the bees buzzing!
