Tomorrow is World Bee Day! 🐝

Where we focus on the importance of bees in our lives and ecosystem and why we need to protect our bees.

There are around 20,000 different species of bees in the world, but the most widespread is the honeybee. It is estimated that one third of the food that we consume each day relies on pollination mainly by bees.

Within the honeybee family the bees are divided in 3 groups:

🐝The most important queen bee- the term queen bee is typically used to refer to an adult, mated female that lives in a honey bee colony or hive; a female bee with fully developed reproductive organs, she is usually the mother of most, if not all, of the bees in the beehive

🐝The worker bees- female bees, who do all the work in the hive, and they control most of what goes on inside.

Their jobs include housekeeping, feeding the queen, drones and larvae, collecting the pollen and nectar, and making the wax.

🐝The drones- A drone is a male honey bee. Unlike the female worker bee, drones do not have stingers.

They gather neither nectar nor pollen and are unable to feed without assistance from worker bees.

A drone's only role is to mate with an unfertilized queen.

Check out our social media for the next few days to learn more about the bees and test your knowledge!
